Ben Lawson, a 30-year-old from Florida, was diagnosed with
acute myeloid leukemia (AML) during the start of the
COVID-19 pandemic last year. After his heart and lungs started failing, he ended up on life support. “Eventually I woke up and had to regain the strength to even walk again,” says Lawson.

TikTok, he shares his road to recovery with nearly 34,000 followers. While being treated for his leukemia, Lawson would power through and work out, sometimes during his hospital stays. Lawson is still on
chemo medication, which he says can make him feel nauseous. But, he always finds time to keep his body moving. “It’s really easy to find excuses,” he says. “You have to decide before you even start that no matter what happens, you’re going to be great. That’s when you can truly achieve anything.” His goal is to compete in a bodybuilding show in the near future. While fitness is a big part of his success story, he also credits his comeback to the support of his wife, Savannah, the love that he has for his kids, and his faith.
