A common side effect when women are getting chemotherapy for ovarian cancer is constipation. Fortunately, in most cases, there are steps you can take at home — which your doctor will be able to go over with you — that can alleviate these symptoms.
Ideally during chemo, you should still be having a bowel movement every day or every other day. If you are not, that’s something you should tell your medical team about. Your doctor may recommend a stool softener or a laxative initially, and propose more advanced interventions if those do not work.
