Nausea is a fairly common side effect for women getting chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, and many patients are afraid they will be so sick they won’t be able to eat. But nausea prevention methods have improved drastically in recent years — and many people say taking the preventative medications leave them with either very little nausea from chemo, or none at all.
For many of the chemotherapies given to women with ovarian cancer, your medical team will put a nausea prevention medicine into your IV before they even begin administering the chemo drugs. These drugs are able to prevent nausea for up for four days. You may also be given preventative medication to keep at home before you begin your chemo regiment — that way, you can manage the symptoms on your own on an as-needed basis.
