Getting surgery for ovarian cancer is a major operation. Doctors are making a large incision, so most people will experience a certain degree of pain afterwards. Doctors can do an abdominal block (where they numb nerves going to the abdominal wall) or inject numbing medicine into the skin during surgery. And afterward, there are a handful of options to deal with the pain. Many people will opt for an IV pain medication that the patient can control themselves, but as medicine advances, there are other pain management methods that don’t involve IV pain killers as well.
