Not only can fans look forward to a new chapter of John’s memoir, but in honor of the 50th anniversary of John’s iconic Troubadour set in Los Angeles, which launched his career, a limited-edition release of John’s debut self-titled U.K. album, The Elton John LP, will be released on August 29th. The rerelease will feature two new bonus tracks, and will be available on vinyl for the first time.
Elton John’s Cancer Journey
In 2017, John was diagnosed with prostate cancer and underwent surgery for treatment. While the surgery was successful, it came with its own side-effects, which John has shared candidly. Ten days after the procedure, he contracted a fever and infection which turned out to be a rare complication from surgery, but received treatment. John is known for his incredible performances, and it turns out the side effects from his prostate cancer surgery wasn’t going to stop him from hitting the stage. In December 2019, he told Graham Norton that he still hadn't regained bladder control as a result from his cancer treatment, which forced him to wear a diaper on stage while performing in Las Vegas in 2017.
"If only they knew at that moment I was pissing myself," John told Norton.
For Cancer Survivors, Milestones Matter
Whether it’s anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, or any special occasion, milestones can mean everything to those who overcome cancer. Going through treatment and being declared “cancer free” is already a huge achievement, but survivors have said that the opportunity to live and enjoy life is really put into a different perspective after a diagnosis.

Stage 4 melanoma survivor Marc Silverstein talks milestones after cancer treatment
“To this day, these are still painful memories,” Silverstein tells SurvivorNet. “The first person I told was my wife. My wife, my children, my sister who is a physician, who is a dermatologist, these were all terribly challenging discussions to have. Over time, I found being open and honest and candid and keeping people informed. My daughters were 13 and 16 years old at the time. I’m thrilled to say that last year both girls got married and we attended both those weddings.”
