You want to make sure you have the best doctor you can find to treat your particular condition, but you also want to feel seen as a person by this doctor. Matthew Zachary, CEO and Founder of Stupid Cancer, discussed the doctor-patient relationship when talking about the medical field’s tendency to overlook young adults with cancer. When he was facing brain cancer as a 21-year-old college student, he noticed a real lack of resources for people in his situation — that’s how he got into advocacy. Matthew also said advocacy is the way to achieve that doctor-patient relationship so many people are looking for.
