There are so many treatment options for people facing cancer today, it can be hard to know which one to choose. Annie Ellis, an ovarian cancer survivor, says it can be really daunting when you have no medical background and you have to make these life-changing decisions – especially when you have a cancer recurrence like she did. Annie got her first diagnosis at age 40, she’s now in her third remission. She says that connecting with other women who had ovarian cancer, and making a point to share with others what she learned from her own experience with the disease had a big hand in helping her cope.
“People who are living with cancer have more options than ever before,” Annie says. “But we don’t always know which person should get which treatment. What was helpful to me, to deal with the anxiety, was to connect with the survivor community.”
