The Legacy that is ‘Tina’
The “Proud Mary” singer proudly shares that a documentary of her life, Tina, is coming out on HBOMax in March. It will be the first film since 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do with It, the hit biopic based on the singer’s life, which chronicled the rocky, abusive relationship with former husband and music partner/producer Ike Turner, who passed in December of 2007. Angela Bassett played the younger version of Ms. Tina, and nabbed an Oscar nomination for her stunning portrayal.View this post on Instagram

Many fans are already aware of the traumatic abuse she had suffered with Ike, but there’s likely much more to the story. Turner was so courageous then for depicting her life in this way, and the impact that she can have now on younger generations women suffering from similar abuse is limitless.
Comeback Queen
Turner has reinvented herself before, but at 81, and looking INCREDIBLEnot to mention a new film and a potential Rock & Roll inductionthis may be her biggest comeback yet. The star allowed current hitmaker Kygo to remix “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” and so far the tune has had over 100 million plays, according to Turner.

The new revival with the Norwegian DJwho also recently released a remix of Donna Summer’s hit, “Hot Stuff,” has already exposed the artist a younger generation of fans, while giving loyal fans a fresh take on the classic hit.
Surviving Intestinal Cancer
Turner is a survivor in so many ways, and another huge obstacle that she has overcome is beating intestinal cancer, which is a rare disease, according to the American Cancer Society. In 2018, Turner announced that she had beat intestinal cancer, and that she also had a successful kidney transplant after her husband Erwin Bach, whom she first met in 1986 and is over 15 years younger than Turner, gave his wife one of his kidneys.
In her recent book, Happiness Becomes You: A Guide to Changing Your Life for Good, Turner credits her husband for teaching her how “to love without giving up who I am.” She describes how different the love is that her husband (whom she married in Switzerland in 2013) shows her compared to the earlier trauma that she endured with Ike Turner. “He shows me that true love doesn’t require the dimming of my light so that he can shine. On the contrary, we are the light of each other’s lives, and we want to shine as bright as we can, together.” This example of love proves that you can always start again. Even after abuse, you can heal. Everyone deserves a chance to find true love.
Love in the Time of Cancer
After many years of abuse, Turner wound up finding her “pink tutu,” in this case in this video feature, a supportive man that who make you laugh and feel whole while facing obstacles, and we all deserve to find that sort of happiness, especially while going through cancer. A pink tutu doesn’t have to be literal, just anything you are passionate about. What is your pink tutu?
