She continues, “And after a while, I realize it's my poor husband [Randy Bick] screaming my name from the kitchen and he sliced his hand open…If he's calling for me for my help, it must be bad, because I can't do anything. I can barely even walk…”
Griffin goes on to detail how her husband, Randy, cut his hand open while he was making lunch for the two of them, and a fire truck came as a result. Giggling throughout, the comedian appeared to be in great spirits post-surgery, and her fans and famous friends were loving it.
Actress Kate Beckinsale commented on the video, saying, “Laugh at everything always. You are the queen of everything especially no pants. Love you x.” Comedian Nikki Glaser writes, “More of this please! Stand-up from bed! We love you!” And MS fighter Selma Blair says, “Love this so much. Needed. Omg. And get well dearest! Omg. So funny. Horrible. I hope ice cream was great.”
Understanding Lung Cancer
There are two main types of lung cancer. And the type of lung cancer a person is diagnosed with will inform their treatment path, as well as the predicted progression of the cancer. The two types of lung cancer are:
- Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type and makes up about 85% of cases
- Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is less common, but it tends to grow faster than NSCLC and is treated very differently
Lung cancer is a serious cancer, but fewer people annually are getting diagnosed with this disease because of a decline in smoking rates. Additionally, advancements in treatment options exist, too, which means better prognoses for some patients.
Treatment options for lung cancer can include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of these treatments. New treatments, such as immunotherapy and targeted agents, are dramatically improving the prognosis and quality of life for people diagnosed with this disease.

Finding Humor Through Cancer
As Griffin shows us, finding humor while going through cancer can be empowering and life-changing. Jesus Trejo is a stand-up comedian in Long Beach, CA, who became a caregiver when both of his parents were diagnosed with cancer. His mom was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor and his father battled colon cancer.

In an earlier interview with SurvivorNet, Trejos explains how humor has helped him in the face of cancer, as he cares for his parents. “The only advice I have for anyone watching this is laugh and laugh often. Laugh at yourself,” he says.
“Don’t take yourself seriously, Trejos reminds us. “Things are already bad. Because once you do that, it’s a game-changer. And laughter lasts so little, but the the actual laughter, but the effects of it just reverberate through your body. And it can change an already bad situation into a better one.”
