Like any surgery, there are risks associated with getting ovarian cancer surgery. However, the liklihood that women will experience any complications is really small. Dr. Dana Chase, a gynecologic oncologist at Arizona Oncology, said that only about 1% of women who get ovarian cancer surgery will experience any type of complication.
That being said, with most surgeries there is a risk of infection, bleeding, the need for a blood transfusion, and the risk of damaging nearby organs. However, Dr. Chase explained that gynecologic oncologists are trained to fix injuries to surrounding organs — so if they should occur during surgery, a doctor will most likely be able to fix them to avoid complications.
