While ovarian cancer surgery can come with some side effects, doctors do recommend that women try to get up and moving and eat and drink as soon as possible after surgery concludes — and simply avoid any strenuous activity for awhile. Previously, women would be required to stay in the hospital after surgery for up to two weeks. However, with modern medicine, a lot of women can go home within 3 to 7 days.
Dr. Dennis DeSimone, a gynecologic oncologist at ZangMeister Cancer Center, says that he recommends that his patients get up and walk as much as possible after surgery — he also recommends that women try to get up and walk around within 24 hours after surgery concludes.
