Nika Stewart, then 51, went in for her annual
mammogram in December 2019, which led to her being diagnosed with breast cancer. The year 2020 was a challenging time for a lot of Americans, but especially so for cancer patients. During the height of the pandemic, Stewart had a double mastectomy and five months of intensive chemotherapy, but that did not stop her positive outlook on life. She channeled her energy into creating videos for
TikTok, where she shares the humor in her cancer journey with her nearly 110,000 followers.

laughter is the best medicine. “I’m getting good at finding humor in the struggle,” Stewart says. Her content is funny, uplifting and motivating. In one
video she tells her followers, “You are stronger than you think!” A reminder to her TikTok community that no matter what life throws your way, you can overcome. Stewart, now 52, says early detection saved her life. After completing six weeks of radiation in August 2020, she is now cancer-free and on the road to recovery. Her spirits remain high because her cancer diagnosis has taught her that she “can do hard things.” Her TikTok followers helped her cope during the difficult times. “I connected with so many beautiful people,” she says. Stewart says she feels amazing right now. “Imagine we all felt really amazing because of the struggles we go through,” she says.
