Most people who have lived with cancer can tell you, having support from friends and loved ones makes a world of difference. Survivor and former “Good Morning America” host Joan Lunden, who battled breast cancer in 2014, is no different. In a recent interview with SurvivorNet, Lunden says that even before her experience with cancer, having support at work made her time on GMA so much more enjoyable — and a lot of that support was coming from her co-host Charlie Gibson.

Read More In fact, Lunden says, she and Gibson still talk today. He’s a good friend to have in your corner, she says. “I am so lucky to have spent so many years working, not next to, but with an amazing guy like Charlie Gibson,” she says. “We get together, now and then. In fact, we just texted yesterday: time for an update. Just because he’s such an incredible friend. You know, if something great happens you want to call him and tell him. And if something terrible happens, that’s the friend that will be there for you. That’s the kind of guy Charlie Gibson is.” The two hosted GMA together for a decade before Lunden left in 1997. Still, she says, he’s still got her back to this day — almost like a brother.
